Former Member of Parliament Bob Dechert Announces his Candidacy for the Ontario PC Party Nomination in Mississauga Erin-Mills

Mississauga- Today, former Member of Parliament Bob Dechert announced his intention to seek the Ontario PC nomination in the riding of Mississauga-Erin Mills for the 2018 provincial election.  In a statement Mr. Dechert said the following:

For seven years I had the honour of serving our community as your Member of Parliament.  During that time and in spite of the good work that we were able to achieve in Ottawa, I watched Ontario consistently fall further and further behind the rest of Canada under the wasteful, irresponsible and incompetent Kathleen Wynne and Dalton McGuinty Liberal Government.

13 long years of record deficits and billions of hard earned taxpayer dollars squandered on a bungled energy policy have resulted in the highest electricity costs in North America which have gutted our industries, killed jobs and opportunities for Ontarians of all ages.  Under Kathleen Wynne and Dalton McGuinty, Ontario has been reduced to the status of a have-not Province.

I believe that we have now reached a tipping point in the history of our Province.  A point where if we don’t change course and get on the right track soon we may never regain our position as a leading province in our country and an engine of economic opportunity for our people.

With the loss of each job and the reduction of every dollar of Ontario’s GDP, we lose the ability to educate our children and care for our people.

So today, with the support of my family and friends, I humbly offer my name to my party as our candidate in the upcoming election.  I have chosen to do this because I believe that I can bring my years of experience in both the business world and in government to help Patrick Brown solve the many problems we face here in Ontario.

The problems that our Province faces are many and complex and require substantive and relevant government and business experience.  This is not the time for on-the-job training.

The PC party of Ontario has been my home since 1972.  It is an inclusive party.  It is a party with a proven track record of prudent, reasonable and effective government.  It is the party that Ontario has counted on to fix the fiscal problems that have arisen from wasteful Liberal and NDP governments in the past.  It is the party that we need to fix the problems of today.  I want to be a part of that solution.

If you agree with me that Ontario deserves better than Kathleen Wynne, I respectfully invite you to join my efforts here in Mississauga-Erin Mills by signing up as a member of the Mississauga-Erin Mills Ontario PC Association and attending our nomination meeting to support me in our nomination.

Together, we can win back our riding and help change Ontario for the better.

I would be honoured to have your support.
